Adelaide pub The Highway has done it again, raising $5,000 through their ‘Who Let The Dads Out’ fundraiser for The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Palliative Care!
The successful fundraiser was organised by Christine McAuliffe, specifically supporting Laurel Hospice. Christine shares her personal motivation behind her fundraising journey below:
“This is now the third fundraiser I have held for Laurel Hospice. We’ve had two ‘Girls Night (G)In’ fundraisers and our most recent event, ‘Who Let The Dads Out’.
The first fundraising event I organised was motivated after seeing an article from Lucy Cornes regarding her brother, and the magnificent care he received at Laurel.
Since then, sadly one of my best friends Belinda Price passed away in Laurel Hospice in June 2022, and the care she received during her time there was amazing. I wanted to make sure the money we raised was specifically going to
the Hospice – with no charges taken out.
For ‘Who Let The Dads Out’ we had a horse racing night, with the Melbourne night races live on the big screens. We also hired two pinball machines, a
Daytona machine and a Buck Hunter Machine to keep the dads entertained and bring back some of their youth!
We also held a raffle and auction on the night. The men praised the event and had a great night – they’ve even asked us to make in an annual event so we’re
looking to do so!
It was a great chance for them to catch up with their mates, while raising money for such a worthy cause. Our DJ that attended donated his $900 package for the night as sadly his father passed away in Laurel Hospice too.
You can be certain that the Highway will continue to think of events to raise money for Laurel Hospice in the future!”
